Innovar was first published in 1991. In its first two years the Journal was published on an annual basis and then from 1993 until 2008 it was published every six months. Currently, it is published every three months and receives research publications, analysis and literature reviews in management science and accounting. It is also open to papers that come from different disciplines of social sciences, should they have any relation or impact on organizations. Up to date, the Journal is the only one and the first one in its domain in obtaining the highest category in the National Bibliographic Index of Colombian scientific and technological publications (A1).

It also complements its wide circulation through bibliographic databases, digital repositories and indexes. In mid-2008 it was accepted in the Social Sciences Citation Index of Thomson Reuters.
